Where the Trails Go
Most snowshoeing trips are based in the Rugova Mountains, just outside Peja, where almost no ski infrastructure means you’re deep into quiet, snow-covered nature within about an hour of walking. Trails here are chosen specifically for their low avalanche risk, weaving through pine forests and open meadows with sweeping mountain views — a good mix of easy walking and genuine wilderness, close enough to nearby villages to stay safe and accessible.
A typical day starts in Peja, where you meet your guide and gear, then drive to the village of Boge before setting off on foot. Depending on the route, trails climb toward spots like Gropat e Boges and up to Cafa Dasmoreve, a mountain saddle right on the Kosovo–Montenegro border, or loop through forestry roads toward Maja e Podit (1,900m). More ambitious groups can push further — toward Hajla Peak (2,403m), or even up Gjeravica, Kosovo’s highest peak, for those wanting a proper winter climb.
Where You’ll Stay
Multi-day trips typically overnight in small mountain guesthouses in Reka e Allages or Drelaj, including home-cooked meals at guesthouses like Shqiponja — real mountain hospitality rather than resort-style comfort. For those who’d rather combine the activity with more comfortable lodging, a three-star hotel base in Boge is also an option.
Gear
Equipment is provided and includes modern Inook snowshoes, carbon fiber walking poles, and gaiters — no need to arrive with your own kit.
Who It’s For
Snowshoeing here works well for a wide range of ability levels, and is a great option for families — suitable for kids from around age 10 and up. It’s equally suited to a single day out from Peja or a longer multi-day mountain experience.
