TWO MOUNTAIN RANGES, THREE COUNTRIES, NO CROWDS
Kosovo sits between two of the last wild mountain systems in Europe. To the south, the Sharr Mountains stretch along the border with North Macedonia and Albania — broad ridgelines, reliable snow and terrain that suits everything from first tours to full traverses. To the west, the Accursed Mountains (Bjeshkët e Nemuna / Prokletije) rise in a 60-kilometre wall of limestone shared with Albania and Montenegro — the highest, steepest and most dramatic section of the Dinaric Alps.
Neither range has lift queues, avalanche control or marked routes. What they have is deep continental snow from December to April, guesthouses where dinner is cooked by the family that owns the mountain pasture, and descents that may not have seen another skier all season.
