Ski Touring in Kosovo: Brezovica, Prevalla & the Accursed Mountains
Kosovo’s ski touring runs across two distinct mountain characters — the Brezovica and Prevalla gateways into the Sharr Mountains in the south, and the steeper, wilder Accursed Mountains in the west. The latter forms part of the officially protected Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Park, a 63,028-hectare reserve established in 2012 that spans the districts of Peja and Gjakova along the Montenegrin and Albanian borders.
Brezovica — Kosovo’s Ski Touring Base
Brezovica is Kosovo’s largest ski resort, though modest by Alpine standards — a handful of aging lifts, some running since the 1970s. For ski tourers, that’s part of the appeal: wide, open pistes and off-piste terrain that’s easy to access. The classic touring route climbs to Guri i Zi (Black Rock Peak), at 2,536 meters, sitting directly on the border with North Macedonia — roughly 870 meters of elevation gain over about 3.5 hours. A shorter 2-hour tour up to Mali i Ministrit works well as a warm-up. Brezovica sits between 1,700 and 2,200 meters, with a snow season typically running December through April.
Prevalla — Toward Konjusha & Bistra Peak
Prevalla is not a ski resort — just a small, occasional lift and otherwise undeveloped mountain terrain. Tours here start around 1,530 meters, climbing through open alpine fields to Konjusha Peak (2,571m). Bistra Peak (2,651m), between Brezovica and Prizren, forms part of the range separating Kosovo and North Macedonia, and can be climbed from either side of the border.
Into the Accursed Mountains
From Prevalla, multi-day itineraries continue via Zalli Rupes and the Deçan Gorge to Gaçaferi Mountain Guesthouse — the sole guesthouse in this part of the region. From here, routes push toward Maja e Trekufinit, the Three Border Peak at 2,300 meters, marking the exact point where Kosovo, Montenegro and Albania meet.
